About

Hey, I'm Nikhil ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm an engineering leader based in Espoo, Finland. I like hard problems, well-built systems, and a loud guitar.

What I'm doing now

These days I lead the Benefits team at Wolt, driving the expansion of our incentivised employee-benefits program โ€” the platform that puts lunch, wellness, culture and Wolt+ behind a single card, app and invoice. Before Benefits I led Consumer Finance. Wolt operates at real scale, and that shapes how I think: the interesting part isn't just shipping features, it's building fintech systems that stay correct and reliable when a lot of people and a lot of money depend on them.

The road here

I've spent 20+ years shipping software, and I've never been precious about languages or stacks โ€” I care about solving the problem in front of me. I spent 11 years at Google as a full-stack / frontend engineer, building internal systems that gave teams insight into advertising spend and performance. Along the way I worked at Qentinel on test automation and at Starship Technologies on mobile and frontend web for its delivery robots. I then spent about a year and a half at Finnair as a Senior Frontend Engineer on customer-facing web, before joining Wolt in 2020.

The through-line is being a language-agnostic problem solver: comfortable going deep on Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Python or React, and just as happy in the messy space between systems where the real problems live. Lately I've been particularly into build systems and monorepos โ€” Bazel, Gazelle and friends โ€” which is most of what I write about.

Off the keyboard ๐ŸŽธ

I play the guitar โ€” mostly blues, classic rock and hard rock, but have been a metal head most of my life. If you want to know my actual taste rather than my stated one, my Spotify tells the truth.

Say hello

I'm always up for talking application architecture, technology choices, or mental sparring. Find me onLinkedIn orGitHub.
