How to make 100% use of your LCD real estate

Nikhil Dev | July 30, 2007 | 4:46 pm

At work I work on a 24″ widescreen monitor and noticed that I was wasting so much of the space on it. So what was it that I could do to make the mazimum use of the LCD space. Well, first let me define the requirements. I needed something that would allows me to arrange the windows into prearranged sizes and arranged them in the form of a grid. And all this at the click of a menu options. Again, there is some research that goes into it and found this cute piece of software called GridMove. The best part about this software is that its free and has a lot of customizability. Some of the features mentioned in its website are:-

Features:

  • 3 different interaction methods to suit everyone’s likes
  • Several pre-made grid templates that can be easily swaped
  • Ability to set windows on top and maximize them vertically or horizontally
  • Full keyboard support, which can organize windows with one hotkey press
  • Customizable hotkeys
  • Customizable interface
  • Possibility to create dynamic custom grids
  • Complete help file
  • MultiMonitor Support
  • Easy install/uninstall.

But trust me, its a breez to use this application. Espcially that the grid is customizable. I love the middle click drag feature which is the one that I use the most. Also the predefined templates are the ones that are good enough to get you going with some productive work.. So go ahead and download GridMove.
