By default the Fedora core 6 installation comes with Compiz as the window manager. I have done quite a lotta research on that and found that Beryl works out to be a far more flexible and effecient window manager than Compix. The easiest way to install Beryl without building the source is by typing “yum install beryl-gnome” or “yum install beryl-gnome” into the terminal depending on what Desktop Environment you are using.
To make beryl start automatically with GNOME, type gnome-session-manager in a terminal window. Add beryl-manager to the Startup Programs section. If beryl doesn’t start correctly (the beryl splash screen doesn’t appear when you log in) it may be necessary to remove the file: “rm ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-session/rh/%gconf.xml” and just logout and login again. This will have beryl startup as the default window manager.
I have played with both the window managers and found that beryl has much better support of themes and customizability than any other window manager.
Give it a try and I am sure that you will love it.
