Excuses excuses and more excuses

Nikhil Dev | November 22, 2006 | 10:53 am

I know that everytime I do not blog, I come up with excuses that I do not have enough time. I sure have to agree that I am lazy. But to an extent me being busy I guess would be justified. Need to get the visa work completed. And then do the rest of the planning. So sure would be expected to be busy. I just hope that it gets done in one go cos as I have already declared that I am lazy, I would have no patience to take a second shot.

How to make a crossover cable

Nikhil Dev | | 8:54 am

For all you people who dont know what a crossover cable is, it is just a simple network cable that can be altered to directly connect 2 computers rather than using a switch or a hub. Everybody knows most of the details of crimping but the biggest deal with have a crossover cable is the order of the wires. So I searched a little and managed to find something that was meaningful enough.

This first image shows a normal cable. You just need to interchange the first with the third and the second with sixth. That is all what is needed. After the crossing over is done, this is what it should look like once done.

Now this cable can be used to transfer files or do some network gaming between two computers.

A stock that is truly amazing.

Nikhil Dev | | 8:37 am

I have been waiting for these days for so long. Just a few months back I remember seeing the stock struggling at 378 and now it is all the way up to almost 510. I would say that this is the kind of stock that you can always invest in.

CCleaner 1.34.407

Nikhil Dev | November 9, 2006 | 11:21 am

CCleanerCCleaner optimizes your PC by removing various kinds of system detritus, such as temp files, old Registry entries, and invalid shortcuts. It also helps promote privacy by deleting your browser’s URL history, cookies, and so on.In other words, it cleans out the crap (hey, I’m not the potty-mouth; that’s what the “C” in CCleaner stands for). I’m not usually a fan of utilities like this, as they sometimes do more harm than good, but CCleaner has a stellar reputation (as evidenced by its 4.5-star average on CNET’s Download.com). Even so, if you’re a Windows XP user, I highly recommend running the System Restore utility and setting a rollback point before running CCleaner–just in case.

CCleaner is freeware (the developer accepts donations). It works with all versions of Windows (even Vista Beta 2).

  • Firefox 3 Beta 4 proven to be the best of the lot browser
  • The safest way to run suspicious programs
  • My laptop final setup
  • A very easy way to turn your windows PC into a MAC
  • Ubuntu 8.04 beta released

Online file conversion with Zamzar

Nikhil Dev | | 11:09 am

ZamzarZamzar is a web-based file conversion tool that can convert your video, audio, images, and documents from nearly any format to nearly any format you like.

For example, if you’ve never felt that you could quite figure out how to convert that video you took on your cameraphone to a format you can play on your iPod, Zamzar can do it for you. Zamzar is similar to previously-mentioned online file converter Media-Convert, and both services sort of blow my mind, but I found Zamzar to have a cleaner, easier to use interface, and Zamzar can handle files up to 100MB vs. Media-Convert’s 50MB limit. Also, Zamzar lets you convert more than one file at a time, provided you are doing the same type of conversion for each file.

Visit Zamzar

  • One of the best Video players I have seen till date
  • A great solution to media support on Windows - CodecInstaller
  • My personal recommendation on the best music player software available today
  • Google Earth Beta 4 (Windows/Mac/Linux)
  • Rules of thumb by Matt Cutts
